REFLECTION; This assignment can function in a number of ways; primarily relating what the students see to what they think. In one of my other classes we took pictures of shapes that reminded us of letters or numbers and it took a special way of looking at the world to do so. However, once we started to see the letters or numbers in natural and created objects, it was nearly impossible to NOT see them. Using this technique can focus your students on the meaning in a scene, or creating meaning with a carefully constructed series of images into a vignette. In my class, I intend to use this to have the students create an advertisement about the damage done to our environment by careless consumerism, but without words, or with a very limited number of words (eight or so). I want the stark images and the succinct text to say more than an article ever could.
